Silver Leaf 1981 Triumph TR8 3.5L V8 5 Speed Manual
Gateway Classic Cars of Scottsdale is pleased to offer this jolly good 1981 Triumph TR8 for sale on consignment with our Arizona showroom, located in North Phoenix.
The TR8 was an 8-cylinder version of Triumph’s popular TR7 sports car and was dubbed “The British Corvette” since most of them were sold in the United States. While there were an estimated 140,000 TR7’s sold, just 2,497 TR8’s made it off the production line according to online literature.
This TR8 for sale is painted in a striking Silver color with a recently replaced Gray canvas convertible top that can be manually raised and lowered.
The styling of the TR8 is similar to the TR7 and features a Black plastic front and rear bumpers with a chrome luggage rack on the trunk deck. Instead of using the V8 found in the Triumph Stag, the TR8 was offered with a 3.5l V8 sourced from another British manufacturer- Rover. Power steering and power brakes are both present, providing a safe driving experience.
1981 was also the only year offered with Bosch fuel injection, making this TR8 the one to own! The 5-speed manual transmission has been replaced according to the seller’s records using parts from Rimmer Bros, a British aftermarket auto parts company. The dash reading is under 100k miles but we believe that the vehicle’s odometer has rolled over.
The sellers of the vehicle claim to have owned it since 1986, where it was purchased from the original owner in San Jose, California and the Carfax (copy available on request) shows most of the registration history in California and from 2012 in South Dakota. You’ll be surprised by how much room is inside this 1981 Triumph, even for taller people.
The Blue cloth seats sit very low giving more headroom and the steering wheel is small for ease of entry, exit and legroom. Original gauges with readings for speed, tach, a (working!) clock, water temperature, fuel level and voltage provide plentiful driver information. An aftermarket Panasonic AM/FM/Cassette player has been installed but is not currently functioning.
If you’re looking for the British sports car experience but like a V8 engine over a 4-cylinder and appreciate the rarity and collectability of a Triumph TR8, you’re going to want to give this a second look.
